MapStore is a framework used to build WebGIS applications with advanced map and geospatial data viewing tools. geOrchestra includes MapStore as its main map viewer for data visualization and sharing.

The official MapStore documentation is available here: mapstore.readthedocs.io. It provides general information about tools and pages available in the upstream product.

Because geOrchestra uses MapStore only for its own map viewer and administration interfaces, and not for the full upstream product surface, some information from the official documentation may differ from what is available here.

MapStore is based on two concepts:

  • the map: This is the final geographic document. It consists of data layers, a zoom level, and a precise center point. It is what the user views to visualize specific data.

  • the context: This is a map enhanced with tools (printing, search, measurement, ...), used to create an application. Its presentation can be customized, and it has its own URL.
